White sapota

Crown and root system: This is an evergreen tree with a moderate-large crown.  The root system is extensive and non-invasive.

Growing regions: Areas where there is no frost.

Ripening date:  During the summer months.  The fruit is about the size of an apple, it has a rich and melt-in-your-mouth texture, with a delicate flavor.  In Central America it is used to make shakes.

Planting in a container: Cannot be planted in a container.

Recommended planting season: All year round, except for the cold months.

Varieties sold in our nursery: Our nursery sells the compound white sapote, with particularly large fruit.

Good to know:
Among Indian children in Central America, the sapote was called “sleep-sapote,” because of their belief that eating the fruit helped relieve insomnia.
