Botanical name:  Muntingia calabura

Crown and root system:  This is a strong shade tree that is easy to grow with an impressive crown.  The root system is not aggressive despite its size.  Thanks to its fast growth rate it can be used as a pioneer tree to establish one’s garden.

Description of the fruit:  This is a small, round, red fruit that is sweet and juicy.  It is considered the cherry of the warm regions.  During the harvest season the trees are full of these delicious fruits.

Growing regions:  Areas with no frost.

Ripening date:  End of summer.

Planting in a container:  Not possible.

Recommended planting season:  All year round, except for winter months.
